Touchjet Wave

Touchjet Wave is a brand new device that uses Wi-Fi to transform a run-of-the-mill TV into a huge mobile phone touchscreen that downloads Web content.  The gadget attaches to the top of a television set, then uses High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) to add touch screen technology and Google's Android OS to the electronic appliance.

Touchjet Wave features 1 gigabyte (GB) of RAM and 8 GB of memory, according to DNA India. It also includes Android Kitkat 4.4 and Wi-Fi wireless Internet.

The new device allows most HDMI-ready 20-inch to 60-inch televisions to use apps such as Spotify and Netflix, according to Digital Spy. Productivity services such as Google Docs can also be used.

In many ways the device functions like a laser keyboard. Such technology adds a laser overlay onto the TV, which matches up touch input to the screen.

Downloading the Touchjet app allows users to convert their smartphones into a remote control. Then they can access the apps that appear on the TV.

A sensor module sitting on top of the television tracks a user's finger movements. That makes touch controls possible.

When a person's fingers hover close to the display, the icons on the "touchscreen" are activated. This prevents screen smudges.

An air mouse is also available to use with the unit. However, there is an additional charge for the accessory.

It is unlikely that the gadget will drastically change all TV viewing. However, applications could include playing video games with one's family, or giving a presentation at the office.

Consumers can pre-order Touchjet Wave through the crowdfunding site Indigogo, where it raised $100,000 in one day. The price tag is $99.
