The "sledging" involving Nick Krygios and Stan Wawrinka in Montreal dragged two other tennis players right at the center of the issue.
Stan Wawrinka's rumored girlfriend Donna Vekic was the one Krygios references in a disparaging manner. Both Wawrinka, who just got divorced and Vekic herself have never confirmed that they have a relationship.
Nevertheless, the entire tennis world, and even fans of other sports have begun asking questions on the controversy. A closer look on Donna Vekic and Thanassis Kokkinakis was conducted by Larry Brown Sports.
Vekic was once heralded as "the next Maria Sharapova" for her long blonde locks and her looks. Rumors began to surface when the "19-year-old Croatian tennis player was seen cheering on Wawrinka at Wimbledon. There were rumors that the two were dating back at the French Open in May."
It was also noted that Wawrinka and Kevic share a common agent and eventually, Kevic started tweeting about the Swiss netter.
Wawrinka's divorce was announced only last April from estranged wife Ilham whom he married in 2009.
The other guy at the center of the controversy is Thanassi Kokkinakis, also from Australia and Krygios' Davis Cup teammate after Bernard Tomic was banned from the competing. He is also 19 years ols and currently ranked no.69 in the world.
He played mixed doubles with Donna Vekic last year, and LBS stated that "Vekic and Kokkinakis have history." Although, it was never confirmed that they were dating, fans were suspicious become of some allegedly "flirty" tweets.
Still, what happened with Kokkinakis and Vekic is not the issue.
The controversy may yet continue to extend as Krygios mother and brother have rushed to his defense. On the other hand, Wawrinka continues to push for harsher penalties for the young Australian.
