Fans of "True Detective" are still eagerly waiting on whether the series will be renewed or cancelled for season 3. The season 2 finale may have ended on a major cliffhanger but that does not guarantee that the HBO drama would return.

According to Zap2It, HBO president Michael Lombardo confirmed that the producers are very much interested in renewing the series. He shared that they were not expecting that "True Detective" would attract such a huge following. He shared that each episode had an average of 12 million viewers.

Lombardo mentioned that he spoke to series writer Nic Pizzolatto about the possibility of a third season. He revealed that they have already started discussing about possible plots and storylines. Lombardo also said that he could definitely see the series going on for a long time. He held that Pizzolatto's writing style is much "bolder, braver and more satisfying" that what viewers see on film these days.

Meanwhile, Hollywood Life reported that "The Vampire Diaries" alum Nina Dobrev wanted to star in "True Detective" season 3. The actress allegedly asked her team to talk to the executive producers of the series to make it happen. Although HBO has yet to make an official statement regarding the show's renewal Dobrev reportedly wanted to be first in line to guest star in the premiere episode.

Dobrev has always been a fan of the show. She recently tweeted that she could not stop binge watching, eager to find out what would happen next in the series.
