"Grey's Anatomy" star Ellen Pompeo is no longer upset about the Emmy snub. The actress, who plays Meredith Grey in the ABC series, shared that starring in a series that has been in the air for 12 seasons is more than enough.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Pompeo shared that even though "Grey's Anatomy" has been renewed for another season that does not mean that she should be complacent. The actress revealed that she always tries her hardest and gives it her best each episode.
In the same interview, series creator Shonda Rhimes revealed that season 12 would most likely focus on Meredith as she tries to cope up with the death of her husband Derek (Patrick Dempsey). Rhimes may be a grieving widow, but the creator teased that they were able to find a way to make her situation lighter, funnier.
"She's been a woman who has been off the market forever and that humor of 'I'm dead inside, I'm not interested in men,' should be funny in a way," Rhimes said.
It has long been rumored that Meredith Grey will have a new love interest in the coming episode. Speaking to E! News, the showrunner, however, said that she has a different plan for Pompeo's character.
Rhimes revealed that she wanted Meredith to use this time to heal completely and find herself. She said that fans of "Grey's Anatomy" will be surprised as they learn more about Meredith in the coming episodes.
The showrunner, however, is not closing her doors on the possibility of introducing a new love interest for Meredith. She said that although McDreamy is irreplaceable there may come a time that Meredith would need someone and eventually start a family.
