The woman caught in the middle, Donna Vekic, was obviously affected by the controversy surrounding her, but she was able to win her first US Open qualifier.

Despite playing in a Grand Slam tournament, the Croatian netter was hounded by the issue of Nick Krygios' comments. In an attempt to rile up Stan Wawrinka, the Swiss national ranked no.4 in the ATP, Krygios launched an attack against Vekic when he claimed that his teammate Thanassi Kokkinakis "banged" her.

Even after winning her qualifier, Vekic could not hide her feelings when she spoke to the NY Post.

"He didn't get suspended," Vekic complained.  "It's ridiculous. No more comment on this.''

The NY Post noted that she was distraught the entire match. "She argued incessantly with the chair umpire over line calls, wept during one first-set changeover during which the umpire asked her, 'Are you all right?' In protest, she called for a USTA supervisor to come onto the court in the third set."

Vekic reiterated that it was all about tennis.  "Some linecalling was absurd,'' Vekic said. "I can't believe this can happen on a grand-slam level.''

Meanwhile, Nick Krygios, the culprit who started it all has not reached out to the person whom he sought to offend. Stan Wawrinka was asked by Sky Sports but he simply addressed the question and wanted to move on.

"He didn't apologize, no," Wawrinka said. "But I prefer not to talk about him. Thank you."

Most of the tennis world agree that Krygios went too far and Donna Vekic seems justified to ask for more sanctions as she was the one directly affected by the incident even though she was absent when it happened.
