Director James Gunn has confirmed that "Fast and Furious" star Vin Diesel will return in the "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2."
Gunn posted a status on his official Facebook page. In his post, the director talked about finishing what one has started. Apparently, Facebook user Faizan Shaikh gave a comment asking if Diesel will return in Gunn's sequel, which was mistyped as "GOTG3." Knowing that the fan meant "Guardian of the Galaxy: Vol. 2," the director affirmed that Diesel will be back in the sequel with his simple reply, "Yes."
Groot has become iconic to comic book lovers and movie goers with his famous three-word line, "I am Groot." According to Cinema Blend, Diesel is vital to the film, as he had the ability to convey an array of emotions by with just uttering three words, which had become four by the end of Gunn's first film. This element makes the idea of playing Diesel's voice using a tape recording suggests lack of spontaneity.
At the end of Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy," Groot was shown as a tiny sprout in a pot, with Drax as his background. At this point, it is unknown if the sequel will see an ingrained or a fully-grown Groot. While Gunn has not revealed if there is any change in Groot's growth and development, it is viable that "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" will feature a younger Groot with a changed voice, as per Slashfilm.
Along with Diesel, "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" stars Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Michael Rooker Bradley Cooper (voice), Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, and Chris Pratt, among others.
Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" is slated to premiere in theaters on May 5, 2017.
