Tencent unveils its own film unit, Tencent Penguin Pictures.

Internet and tech giant Tencent has recently launched the app-enabled robot ball Weibao, its first smart hardware product.

A report from the company's tech news website said that the gadget can be controlled by a smartphone application and can interact with users through games.

Weibao is 7.35 centimeters in diameter and 180 grams in weight.

The hardware product, provided by U.S.-based Sphero, is waterproof and is made of a single piece of material.

Apart from mobile app connection, users can also connect to Weibao through Bluetooth wireless technology.

The gadget's design team has also crafted a story for Weibao. The feature is integrated in the app, Weibao Adventure, where users can play with different modes, such as task, control and multi-user.

With Tencent product's built-in LEDs, Weibao also glows with various shades of color.

Additionally, the gadget can be charged via wireless technology. This allows users to use the smart gadget easily and with efficient mobility.

According to the Weibao team, interested individuals can register to "experience" the Tencent gadget.

The device's date to go on general sale is yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, earlier in August, Tencent reported through its earning statement that its revenue for the quarter ending June rose to 23.43 billion yuan. Its revenue for its gaming unit increased by 17 percent, quarter-on-quarter.

Further, its revenue from smartphone games experienced a whopping slowdown as it grew by only 11 percent year-on-year, compared with the previous three months' 82 percent.

On a lighter note, Tencent received good news as its popular messaging app WeChat broke the 600-million mark for users at the end of June.
