‘Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain” Physical Retail PC Version Disc Packs Only Steam Installer

"Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain" serves as a sequel to Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, and a continuation of the narrative established there.

The much awaited "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" will be available to install on Steam from Sept. 1, Tuesday.

However, it seems that the players buying the game on disc, will still have to download the entire game as the disc packs only 8.7MB of data which is the Steam Installer, VG24/7 reported.

"Contents on disc for the physical retail PC version of #MGSVTPP: Steam installer (8.78 MB). And... nothing else," a fan Graphure tweeted, with an image showing the general properties of the disc.

The sequel to 2014's "Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes," developed by Kojima Productions, is dubbed as the "Game of the Year--Guaranteed."

"Basically, it is the most engrossing and stunning game of the year," Konami marketing executive Jon Edwards told MCV.

The upcoming game title will be launching with a companion app - "The Phantom Pain" for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Xbox One, with functionality similar to the Ground Zeroes app. Players will get to see more of the map on the app than on the game screen, while listening to unlocked music.

As of now, there has been no word on if the companion app for the PC version as well as the Xbox 360 version of the game is in the works or not.

With the removal of Kojima's name from the cover, the future of "Metal Gear Solid" series was a big question, as Kojima is expected to exit Konami, just as the game ships on Sept. 1. Nevertheless, Edwards confirmed that the game series is a key Konami franchise and that the developer is committed to the future iterations.
