FOX's "The Following" has been cancelled just after three seasons and there are rumors that the show could have been renewed if fans fought for it harder.
According to Master Herald, FOX had two options ahead of season three's cancellation. First, the network tried to look for another network or an online streaming channel that could pick up the series.
Warner Bros. Television also waited for fans to petition the continuation of "The Following for another season. However, it seems that the fans of the show did not fight for it hard.
Meanwhile, Youth Health Mag reported that "The Following" was first turned down by Hulu, the same online streaming site that picked up Mindy Kaling's sitcom, "The Mindy Project" for season 4.
Additionally, Netflix also reportedly turned down "The Following" after Warner Brothers Television offered their show to the site.
This means that "The Following" has been officially cancelled and there is no more chance for the show to be renewed.
In other news, the network targeted to collect 250,000 fan signatures to petition the renewal of the series. However, FOX only received a total of 13,000 signatures.
This showed that the fans did not really want the series to be renewed. Additionally, there are rumors that fans lost interest on the show because some major questions throughout a season are not answered or addressed in the finale.
Ahead of the show's cancellation, lead star Kevin Bacon expressed his love and gratitude for all of the fans who have supported "The Following" for three seasons.
