Elena Gilbert's friends will definitely miss her in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7. However, Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham), Elena's witch best friend, is the person who will be the most affected with Elena's condition in the upcoming new season of the CW TV series.
In Entertainment Weekly's Spoiler Room report, TVD executive producer Julie Plec teased that Bonnie will feel guilty with what happened to Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) in the finale episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6. "She has survivor's remorse," Plec told EW.
However, Bonnie does not want to be punished for Elena's condition after villain Kai Parker (Chris Wood) used a spell that links her life to Elena's. Kai wanted to get back at Bonnie for leaving him in the prison world of Lily Salvatore (Annie Wersching) and the Heretics.
Bonnie and Matt (Zach Roerig) watched in horror as Kai explained in a video how the linking spell works. "The rule is, as long as you're alive, Elena will remain asleep," Kai stated.
Kai further explained that both Bonnie and Elena will die if Bonnie tries to do something to get rid of his linking spell. In the upcoming new season, Plec further teased that Bonnie will try to take a stand against the people who would make her feel bad about staying alive.
Meanwhile, Plec admitted that Elena's absence has cleared the way a little more for the other female TVD characters. Plec explained that Bonnie and Caroline (Candice Accola) were already Mystic Falls heroes in their own rights so their roles are now allowed to have more room to breathe while Elena is sleeping.
Plec also promised that "The Vampire Diaries" will still keep Elena's presence alive. Plec explained that the idea of seeing Elena again when she wakes up is very present in Caroline, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and especially Damon's life.
Plec told EW that each of them will deal with the idea in their own ways so the show will pay tribute to Elena. "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 will premiere on Thursday night, Oct. 8, at 8/7c on the CW Network.
