Emily Blunt leads the shortlist for Rob Marshall's "Mary Poppins."

"Edge of Tomorrow" actress Emily Blunt is being considered to play the titular role in Rob Marshall's upcoming "Mary Poppins" film remake.

According to Den of Geek, Blunt is currently leading the short list for the iconic character; however, the actress has not had any negotiations yet with Walt Disney. Also, there were no words from the actress with regard to playing the iconic singing character.

Blunt may be the best actress for the role, as per Cinema Blend. The film could move forward effectively, since the actress is capable of maintaining Poppins' English accent, in contrary to hiring another American actress who has to be trained for the accent. Also, Blunt already had a musical experience while playing the role of a baker's wife in Marshall's "Into the Woods," which makes her fit for the role.

Aside from Doug Liman's "Edge of Tomorrow" and Marshall's "Into the Woods," Blunt is also known for her roles in Rian Johnson's action crime film "Looper" and Denis Villenueve's action crime film "Sicario."

Blunt is also set to appear in Cedric Nicolas-Troyan's "The Huntsman" and Tate Taylor's thriller film "The Girl on the Train." She will also voice the character named Zoe in Tony Bancroft and Scott Christian Sava's animated comedy film "Animal Crackers."

Based on P.L. Travers' book series of the same name, "Mary Poppins" centers on a magical nanny who visits a dysfunctional family in London. She uses her distinct way of life to enhance the ties within the family.

Marshall is set to helm the forthcoming film. The director is known for his work, such as "Into the Woods," "Chicago," "Memoirs of a Geisha," and "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."

Since Marshall's "Mary Poppins" is still in its early phase of development, exact details on the plot, additional characters, and cast are yet to be revealed.
