Barbie Hsu took to Twitter to ask about the Twitter phenomenon AlDub. The Taiwanese actress is known for starring in "Reign of Assassins" opposite Michelle Yeoh, who is set to star in the 2016 film "Mechanic: Resurrection" with "Furious 8" actor Jason Statham.
"What is Aldub it's trending everyday?" Hsu tweeted on Sept. 20, Sunday, referring to the fictional couple composed of Filipino actor Alden Richards and Philippines Dubsmash sensation Maine Mendoza, better known as Yaya Dub.
After receiving explanations from AlDub fans, Hsu replied saying she thought it was a pet. Aside from starring with Yeoh in "Reign of Assassins," the actress is best known for playing Shan Cai in the Taiwanese TV series "Meteor Garden" based on the Japanese manga series "Boys Over Flowers" by Yoko Kamio.
The couple composed of Hsu's "Meteor Garden" character Shan Cai and Dao Ming Si, which was played by Jerry Yan, also became internationally known. However, Hsu is now busy with her motherhood and has put show business aside as she has postponed her acting career after placing her daughter Wang His Yueh as her top priority, according to Asian E-News Portal.
On Sept. 19, Saturday, the AlDub phenomenon made a record-breaking feat when it became a worldwide trending topic on Twitter with the hashtag #AlDubMostAwaitedDate amassing more than 11 million tweets in 24 hours.
The AlDub phenomenon was able to topple the Twitter record set by the historical online symbol of love #LoveWins when the United States Supreme Court declared equality of marriage regardless of sexual orientation, according to The Bit Bag.
