The nominations for the 16th annual Latin Grammy Awards were announced on Sept. 23 by the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.

Two Mexican singers led the nominations list. Singer-songwriter Leonel Garcia leads nominees for the Latin Grammy Awards with six nods, followed by pop star Natalia Lafourcade with five. Lafourcade has won the Best Alternative Music Album for "Mujer Divina, Homenaje a Agustin Lara," at the 2014 Latin Grammy Awards.

Juan Luis Guerra and Alejandro Sanz each received four nominations, including for record and album of the year -- as did engineers Edgar Barrera, Demián Nava, and Alan Saucedo and producer Cachorro López.

Nicky Jam and Ricky Martin each had three nominations, as did Pablo Alborán, Café Quijano, Pedro Capó and Vicentico.

This year Roberto Carlos will be honored as "Person of the Year" by the academy. The Brazilian singer and composer will be honored for his outstanding artistic and social contributions to Latin music and culture, Reuters reported.

The four-time Latin Grammy winner and Grammy winner is the famous singer of the '70s and '80s, best known for his hits as "Detalles," "Emociones," "Amada Amante," "Amigo," "Propuesta," "Lady Laura," and "Mujer Pequena."

The 74-year-old international superstar will be honored at the tribute concert on Nov. 18 at the South Pacific Ballroom of the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

Carlos is joining past recipients such as Miguel Bosé, Plácido Domingo, Gloria Estefan, Vicente Fernández, Juan Luis Guerra, Carlos Santana, Joan Manuel Serrat, Shakira, and Caetano Veloso, among others.

The academy honors exceptional accomplishment in the Latin music produced anywhere around the globe that were recorded in either Spanish or Portuguese and is awarded in the United States.

This year's Latin Grammy Awards will take place on Thursday, Nov. 19, and will air on Univision from the MGM Grand Garden Area in Las Vegas. Here are the nominees for the big four categories. The complete list of nominees is available on official website.
