The province of Guangdong has emerged as the top e-commerce retail export hub in China based on the study conducted by American internet customer-to-customer corporation eBay Inc.

Guangdong claims the top spot due to the continuous strength to strength growth of the e-commerce industry in the province, according to the eBay report dubbed 2013 Greater China Retail Export Industry Landscape.

The report also named the other areas that are included in the country's top eight hubs for e-retail export. Aside from Guangdong, the study also named Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the provinces of Shanghai, Beijing, Jiangsu, Fujian, Zhejang as e-retail export hubs.

Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangsu, which are located in the country's eastern coastal regions, saw the fastest year-on-year e-commerce exports growth with 76.1 per cent, 56 per cent, and 52 per cent, respectively.

The eBay report also noted a growing number of online sellers from the inland provinces of China, mainly in Hubei, Henan and Hebei. In Hubei alone, eBay said its sales went up 50 per cent year on year.

The eBay report was based on the company internal data and online survey participated in by 841 e-retailers.

China's e-commerce transactions hit more than 2 trillion yuan, or US$328 billion, last year and the country's e-retail exports also grew tremendously to US$15 billion during the same period, said Cai Yudong of the Ministry of Commerce.

Among the popular items online are computers, mobile phones, accessories, clothing and jewelry, said the report, while electronics, fashion, and home and garden are the three largest e-commerce export categories in the country.

The Ministry of Commerce earlier said that the nation's online retail sales continue to grow, hitting over 454 billion yuan, or US$74.5 billion, in the third quarter of 2013.

The online retail sales grew 42.4 per cent this year from the sales recorded during the same period last year, the ministry revealed.
