Samsung Pay is a Huge Hit in South Korea; Company’s War against Apple Continues

Samsung announced that its 2016 line of SUHD TVs will support SmartThings technology.

The Korean giant Samsung's new mobile payment system Samsung Pay turned out to be a huge hit in South Korea, as the company's war with American brand Apple continues.

According to an official statement of the company, Samsung Pay took in more than $30 million transactions in South Korea from Aug. 20, Thursday to Sept. 20, Sunday. The Korean company furthered that the service was primarily used by merchants and users that engaged in more than 1.5 million transactions.

Apparently, Samsung knew all along that the mobile payment service will definitely pay off. According to Samsung Pay head Injong Rhee, the feedback they received from the system was even more than what they expected.

Presumably, the Korean-based company's success is its newest blow against American company Apple's Apple Pay. According to BGR, Samsung indirectly bashed Apple Pay with its Samsung Pay commercials.

In the said commercials, the Korean brand uses the tagline "It's not a phone, it's a Galaxy" which is identical to Apple commercials' tagline "If it's not an iPhone, it's not an iPhone." In addition, Samsung points out in its commercials that Samsung Pay works at more places which are Apple Pay's weakness.

Samsung was also reportedly bashing other Apple products such as the new iPhone 6 and Pencil.

While Samsung Pay may be doing well in South Korea, critics still think that Apple Pay is the consumer's first choice in the United States and United Kingdom. According to CNet, Samsung will take time gaining foothold in the US because Apple Pay had already signed up to major US banks, credit cards and companies.

Samsung Pay is the Korean company's mobile payments system, which enable users to purchase items through supported merchants via their smartphones. The said mobile payments system will have its US release on Sept. 28, Monday and will soon go head-to-head against Apple Pay and Google's Android Pay.
