Fashion designer Kanye West was not joking when he said at the end of his acceptance speech for the Video Vanguard Award at the 2015 MTV Video Music Award in early September that he would run for president.
The 38-year-old husband of reality star Kim Kardashian confirmed his White House ambition to Vanity Fair in a new interview. He said on Thursday that he is definitely running for president in 2020.
West says that he would not run because he thought it would be fun, although he admits that he got a lot of research to do in the next five years and growing up as well.
The operator of Yeezy Season 2 at New York Fashion Week said he would have to think if he would still keep his creative projects if he pursues politics. West explains, "It's very important that I continue to design, to be in practice of trying to make the best decisions possible. I hate politics. I'm not a politician at all. I care about the truth and I just care about human beings. I just want everyone to win, that's all I can say, and I think we can," E! News quotes the 38-year-old designer.
For those who doubts his mental capacity to be president, West points to his genetic heritage, having a father with two masters degree and a mother who was an English university professor, a PhD holder and worked for civil rights organizations.
In preparation for 2020, Kenya's supporters launched Ready for Kanye, a political action committee, but so far it has less than 100 followers on Twitter and Facebook, Reuters reports. They hope he would run as a Republican.
If Kanye insists that running for president is not a joke, the idea of a reality star - who bares her plump bottom to become more popular - becoming first lady is funny for many Twitter members. Noir kong shared this image of how politicians would react to the Wests being White House occupants.
Ryan Grooms tweeted, "The idea that Kim Kardashian could be the First Lady Oh god."
Eryn Hutt added, "I could get behind Kanye 2020 until I remembered that Kim Kardashian would be our first lady."
Oh-sha-lay-lay said if that grim scenario happens, "I will have zero respect for humanity."
MALA was very direct in saying that she would not vote for Kanye "because I refuse to live in a country where Kim Kardashian would be the First Lady."
However, Kim has one supporter named goblet of fire who insisted, "KIM KARDASHIAN WOULD BE THE GREATEST FIRST LADY OF ALL TIME."
