More gruesome details are coming to light as the infamous Fuping child trafficking case goes on trial at the Weinan Middle District Courts.

Zhang Shu Xia is being charged with six counts of child trafficking by the Weinan District Attorney's office for allegedly selling children to operators of a child trafficking scheme.

According to the D. A.'s Office, Zhang Shu Xia sold a total of seven children separately to buyers in Hunan, Shandong and locally in Shanxi, Fuping.

Evidence indicates that Zhang Shu Xia acted as a middleman for the child trafficking ring, taking in a profit of tens of thousands of RMB for the sale of the children in Western China.

One of those children had died from illness while in the hands of the trafficking ring.

Most of the abducted children were orphans, except for one child who was sold by its own father to Zhang Shu Xia for 15,000 RMB, according to court records.

There are also reports that Zhang had convinced one family to give up their child even before it was born. Zhang reportedly exaggerated the severity of the mother's pre-natal medical tests in order to convince the family to abandon their still unborn child.

The presiding judge in the case has decided to withhold the names of the parents involved as it is still under investigation and not an integral part of the public hearing.
