Derrick Rose Leaving Chicago Via Free Agency In 2017 Possible; Former MVP Mentions His Future and Salary Cap Increase

Derrick Rose

The Chicago Bulls media day was all about Derrick Rose. There is the looming legal matter at present, and more interestingly, his future.

The event was covered by Pippen Ain't Easy, a Chicago fan site and they mentioned that the hot topic was Rose's current situation.

"Like many expected, the Derrick Rose situation was the hot topic of the day," PAE stated. "Not only was Rose asked about the situation, Rose's teammates (Gibson and Noah specifically) and Forman were all asked about the situation regarding Rose and his legal situation."

Rose replied: "I will be proven innocent. It's not true."

Moving on from the present, Rose talked about his future (possibly the best way to divert the topic) and his remarks were "stirring." A series of tweets by Cody Westerlund depicted Rose's statements.

"Rose brought up his free agency in summer 2017 unprompted. The question wasn't about that at all. Derrick Rose says he wants to remain a Bull, just is well aware of the huge influx of money into league and rising salary cap."

It would be hard to imagine Rose leaving Chicago at any point as he is already a hometown hero, playing high school at Simeon. However, some possibilities loom:

If Derrick Rose has an explosive return, he will definitely attract other teams' attention. The Bulls front office is not known to be highly generous, historically scrimping even on Scottie Pippen and the MJ era.

The issue of loyalty will be brought up, but NBC Sports argues: "The Bulls have been loyal to Rose, who has played just 100 regular season games total in the last four seasons. But this is a business. Rose has loyalty to the Bulls, but if another team offers boatloads more cash?"

It all depends on how Rose will bounce back in the next two seasons. If he can stay healthy and bring back a hint of his MVP form, then the Rose carnival would explode.
