A one-year-old boy from Nanjing was discovered to have a sewing needle stuck in his lungs.

During the surgery, the doctors removed a sewing needle from the chest which had penetrated the boy's lungs. The doctors discovered that the position of the needle indicated that the boy couldn't have swallowed it.

This leaves the question, "how exactly did it get there?"

On Dec. 29, the young boy's mother reported that her child would not stop crying. He was normally such a good baby, but the crying wouldn't stop. After two days of medicine and injections, the crying and the fever continued. Finally the doctor advised that the baby should have a chest examination. The results shocked everyone. According to the doctors, the X-ray revealed what appeared to be a 5 cm needle stuck inside the baby's chest.

The child soon underwent surgical procedures to remove the needle from his lungs. Once removed, it was apparent by the coloration of the metal needle that it hadn't been in the child's body for very long. The doctor of the child said that because the child was so small, it would be very difficult for it to swallow a 5 cm long needle, let alone have it penetrate his lungs.

"A few days ago I noticed a small red mark on the babies back; after that he had a very high fever," the boy's mother said. She suspected that somebody had stabbed her child with the needle.

The mother has already filed a police report and the case is now under investigation.
