Rumors say that Samsung will employ Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 and its own Exynos 8890 chips to power the Galaxy S7 in time for the device's early 2016 release date. As the SD 820 is reportedly emerging as a superpower processor and so is the 8890 SoC, which in initial tests is said to be handily beating the iPhone 6S A9 chip.
In a purported Geekbench test results that SamMobile sourced from a Weibo post, the Exynos 8890 that bears the codename M1 Mongoose proved the runaway winner over the iPhone 6S that recently was advertiser as packing more muscles and speed against the MacBook Retina.
The rumored Galaxy S7 chip scored 2294 points in single-core tests and an even higher mark of 6908 in multi-tread speed torture. In low power mode, the upcoming Exynos chip still impressed with respective scores of 1701 and 4896 in Power Saving mode and 1100 and 3209 in Ultra Power Saving mode.
By themselves, the scores provided were nothing short of impressive, indicating too that the Galaxy S7 is destined to best Samsung's 2015 hero phones led by the Galaxy Note 5, the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge.
But the most interesting part of the leaked Geekbench data is the claim that the A9-powered iPhone 6S only managed to return the following scores - 2295 in single-core and 4464 in multi-core. The numbers indicate that in terms of processing showdown, Samsung's upcoming flagship will completely overwhelm the iPhone 6S from Apple.
This early, the Galaxy S7 is shaping up as an iPhone 6S killer and most likely will also slay other Android flagships. But the SamMobile report also noted that work on Exynos 8890 is far from complete as further optimization efforts for the chip remain underway.
So the M1 Mongoose in its final form could prove more powerful and faster than its current form and definitely will give A9 chip on the iPhone 6S an interesting fight. The same applies for the SD 820 that Samsung is rumored to deploy with the Galaxy S7 in select markets. The Qualcomm chip is reportedly in a tip-top shape but Samsung is pressing for further enhancements.
Now whether on SD 820 or Exynos 8890 or both, the Samsung Galaxy S7 release date in 2016 is said to happen earlier than expected, likely as early as February or in the days following the 2016 Las Vegas CES in late January.
