‘Longmire’ Season 5 Updates: Renewal Is Not Dead As Fans Clamor For Another Season

(L-R) Executive producers Hunt Baldwin, John Coveny and actor Baily Chase speak onstage during the 'Longmire' panel discussion at the Netflix portion of the 2015 Summer TCA Tour at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on July 28, 2015 in Beverly Hills, California.

Although in the past any incidence of cancellation of a movie by a network meant a dead end for the series, this may not be the case with "Longmire." The fate for "Longmire" season 5 is still unknown, but fans are already pushing for a renewal of the western-themed crime drama through social media.

"Longmire" season 4 ended on Netflix on Sept. 10 after the installment almost turned out to be a flop because of cancellation by A&E. Warner Horizon Television solicited for a new network that would show the progression of the plot - according to Craig Johnson's novel "Walt Longmire Mysteries" - and Netflix decided to take up the task, Deadline reported.

The movie that revolves around the story of Sheriff Walt Longmire had a good fan-base at first, which pegged the question as to why it had been cancelled after the third season. At that time, A&E said that while the show garnered positive reviews and good rating, it failed to fit the target population.

In the recent past, fans took to social media to protest against the cancellation of the series and this seemed to bear fruits. Warner Bros. offered the show to a number of networks until Netflix picked up season 4.

There is no official announcement from Netflix concerning the fate of the show, but actress Ally Walker is persuaded that the series will return for a season 5. In an interview with Parade, the profiler said that she is convinced that she will come back to reprise her role as Dr. Donna Sue Monahan.

Although Walker's statement raises hope among the fans, Longmire Posse, as fans call themselves are proactive and held an event on Oct. 7 to push for a renewal of the series. Information about the event has been posted on the show's Facebook page and fans are being urged to join the event.

Netflix and Longmire pages will see every share on Facebook of a Longmire Posse post because the two will be tagged. Furthermore, fans are reminded that in case they will be retweeting something related to "Longmire", they should ensure that the content is retweeted along with the hashtag and the @netflix tag.
