Kanye West auditioned for "American Idol" on Saturday in San Francisco for the show's 15th and final season. He sang his 2005 hit "Gold Digger."
E! News reports that Kanye's wife, Kim Kardashian, accompanied him to the auditions. The show, which airs in January, has Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. as judges. Kim brought 2-year-old daughter North West to the audition.
Pregnant Kim, who showed up in a black maxi dress and long, black jacket that hid her baby bump, posted on Instagram an image of the TV monitors showing her husband's audition. She wrote, "Look who's going to Hollywood!"
For the audition, the fashion designer wore a black T-shirt, black jeans, brown jacket and gold chain.
Besides auditioning for "American Idol," Kanye also performed on Saturday at the Democratic National Committee fundraiser where U.S. President Barack Obama gave the rapper some tips since he has expressed a desire to run for president in 2020.
Although Rolling Stone writes that it is unclear if West is really competing to be the final "American Idol" winner or it was a one-off appearance, it adds that if Kanye wins the final season, it would end the talent search show "on a winning note."
Fox informed producers of the show in May that it would no longer renew its contract after the 15th season. The show that discovered Carrier Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry had suffered lower audience share in the past few seasons and has not found an award winner in almost 10 year.
"American Idol" has 13 Grammys, seven of which are held by Carrie Underwood.
