Chelsea News & Rumors: Blues Eyeing Atletico Madrid Manager Diego Simeone As Possible Replacement For Jose Mourinho

Premier League defending champions Chelsea is reportedly eyeing Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone as a potential replacement for current boss Jose Mourinho, who is still struggling to make anything good out of the Blues' 2015-2016 campaign.

The calls at Stamford Bridge to sack Mourinho had been slowly escalating as the weeks of competitions pass by. Presently, the Blues are down to the bottom quarter of the overall standings with a record of 2-4-2 and 8 points after eight games.

It is now almost impossible for Chelsea to retain its crown, unless they will play well in all their games from here on, and could actually be in danger of relegation if they don't start winning matches soon.

Mirror reported that even though team owner Roman Abramovich still has his "vote of confidence" on Mourinho following a disappointing start to the season, the organization is still considering Simeone to replace him any time in the near future.

Abramovich reportedly warned Mourinho that he "must now reassert his authority" in his team's locker room "if he is to have a long-term future at the club."

Chelsea's last game was a 1-3 defeat to Southampton right at their home turf, which led to Mourinho's seven-minute rant during the post-game press conference where he claimed that Blues' officials will be dismissing "the club's greatest ever manager" if they opt to sack him, as per Metro.

Abramovich is allegedly already preparing Simeone's £15-million buyout clause from Atleti if his team's trend further goes downhill.

Mourinho's chance to start a winning streak begins on their next game on Saturday, October 17 against equally hard-luck team Aston Villa, who had been winless in their last seven outings.
