The American Academy of Neurology recently released a study that shows people with AB blood type are more likely to develop memory loss in their later years.

Researchers said that people with AB blood has 82 percent chance to develop thinking and memory problems that leads to dementia.

Dementia is a long term loss of the ability to think and reason clearly that can affect a person's daily function.

It comes from age, where 3 percent of elderly people age 65 to 74 years old develops them, while, 47 percent of elderly people age 85 develops some form of dementia.

Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia that affects 75 percent of elderly people that have dementia.

However, people that are type O have a lower chance to develop heart disease and stroke that can increase memory loss and dementia.

To come up with the study, researchers studied 30,000 people for 3.4 years which they identified 495 participants that has thinking and memory problems.

They explained that in the 495 participants that had a cognitive impairment, 6 percent of those had AB blood type.

Mary Cushman from the University of Vermont said that their study looks at blood type and risk of cognitive impairment.

She said that their findings show the connection between vascular issues and brain health because blood types are related to other vascular conditions like stroke.

Even though, there are several studies showed that their other factors that can lead to cognitive impairment like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.

To date, Researchers are focused on confirming their results.
