In the previous season of "Elementary" viewers saw Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) visiting his dark past and is forced to deal with Oscar (Michael Weston), the former drug dealer, in order to rescue his friend Alfred (Ato Essandoh).
Recently, the executive producer of the show Robert Doherty talked about the end of season three and the fate of the detective after the finale in New York Comic Con.
As season three ends with Sherlock succumbing to his addiction, season 4 picks up immediately after that with Sherlock facing the consequences in the form of prosecution and jail time.
Consequently, Sherlock's consultancy with NYPD ends and both he and Dr. Watson are unemployed. In a trailer, which was screened for the audience, FBI stops in to offer Sherlock with a temporary gig.
On a different note, Morland, Sherlock's father will be joining as a major character in this season according to IGN. According to Doherty, he is one of the major invented characters, which was not present in Arthur Conan Doyle's series.
Doherty goes on to say that Sherlock's father is a complicated man like Sherlock, and he has not been painted as a loving father by Sherlock himself, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Also, fans speculate that since Sherlock has relapsed, now, Moriarty (Natalie Dormer), Kitty (Ophelia Lovibond) and brother Mycroft (Rhys Ifans) might pay him a visit.
