Gennady Golovkin reveals that he has a "sadistic streak" but will he use that on David Lemieux?
In Max Kellerman's Face Off episode for HBO, the topic shifted to GGG and how he reacted to Curtis Stevens' trash talking.
Instead of going all out to finish the fight early as he is wont to do, Golovkin punished him just short of knocking him out, allowing him to survive the next round until his corner threw in the towel themselves.
Boxing News 24 transcribed Golovkin's admission.
"I remember this fight," Golovkin said about his fight against Curtis Stevens. "I don't lose control. I feel him. Just, you know, I can beat him after the first time I knock him down. And for me, it's more important to beat him, you know, like maybe punish him. Yeah, I beat him, beat him, beat him. He understands, he has best mouth. You know like, he understands, this is boxing. Please respect boxing. Respect sport. Not the street fight. You want street fight? Let's go. I show you right now. We have time. I have 12 rounds. I show, every round. I beat him, beat him, beat him, beat him. His corner. He has to understand, he said stop, stop the fight," Golovkin said.
Meanwhile, the Golovkin- Lemieux unification bout will sell for $49.99. While this sounds reasonable considering that another undefeated champion will fight in the undercard (Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez) against a former champion off a knockout win (Brian Viloria), there are still doubts about the numbers.
One point of contention is that prior to this fight, fans can watch these two fighters for free and Boxing News 24 asks: "The question is should be fans have to pay to see this fight when neither of these fighters have ever fought on PPV before? It's a question that only the fans can answer for themselves, but it's something that is going to have ramifications for Golovkin and Lemieux's careers."
