A total of 7,450 energy-saving LED lights have been installed at the China National Convention Center in Beijing in preparation for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Week, China Daily reported.

The installation of the environment-friendly lights is part of a series of renovation projects done for the important event. Aside from the lights, 400 additional monitoring cameras have also been set up, and a general cleaning of the center, the event's main venue, has been done.

The lights were installed in the center's banquet and multi-function halls to improve lighting. They are expected to save an estimated 1.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.

About 3,000 Chinese and foreign media personnel will be positioned at the venue's press center on Nov. 4.

Beijing's local cuisine will be served during the event. The food, which will be provided in 92 meals, each serving about 70,000 people, is hoped to give foreign delegations an insight into Chinese culture.

The APEC Economic Leaders' Week will occur from Nov. 5 to 11. Meetings scheduled for the weeklong event include the final seniors' meeting from Nov. 5 to 6, the 26th ministerial meeting from Nov. 7 to 8, and the Economic Leaders' Meeting from Nov. 10 to 11.

President Xi Jinping will chair the economic meeting and also deliver speeches at the APEC CEO Summit and the APEC Business Advisory Council Dialogue with Leaders, according to Xinhua.

The 21 APEC member countries, which include world economic leaders Japan, China, Russia and the United States, are responsible for more than half of the world's economic output.
