Vice Premier Ma Kai has called for greater efforts to maintain steady growth in employment through better policies, services and training, according to state-run Xinhua News Agency.

Ma said that, to achieve this, actions must be taken to improve supportive policies, step up vocational training and enhance services.

The vice premier said that while new jobs generated during the first three quarters of the year surpassed projections, there still lies a discrepancy between a declining economic growth and labor oversupply.

"The structural mismatch of labor supply and demand is becoming increasingly conspicuous, and no efforts should be spared in promoting employment," said Ma during a section tour to Sichuan Province in southwest China on Friday.

The vice premier encouraged local governments at all levels to put a premium on employment in their respective social and economic development plans, and that they must exert full effort in ensuring a stable job market.

The Chinese leader also emphasized the importance of employment in attaining steady economic growth and a smooth progress in social and political reform, as well as social cooperation and stability.

The first three quarters of the year saw the creation of 10.82 million new jobs across the country, which exceeded last year's figures by 160,000. The number of jobs created so far this year has also already exceeded government targets for the whole year.
