Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport has ranked 10th in a list of Best Airports for Sleeping in 2015, posted by the website Sleeping in Airports, the first time the airport has made the top 10 of the list, according to a press release by Taoyuan International Airport Corp. on Monday.
Previously, the best position the Taoyuan International Airport held was fifth best airport for sleeping in Asia, which it got last year, according to the press release.
"The airport has made it to the world's top 10 this year, suggesting that it has won international recognition," said the company in its press release.
According to one of the website's users named San, "the best place to lay-over is the Transit Lounge located in terminal 2."
The top five on the list were awarded to Singapore Changi International Airport, Seoul Incheon International Airport, Helsinki Airport, Munich International Airport and Vienna International Airport.
The top five were posted on the website, along with a short write-up and pictures of the facilities each airport has that can be used for sleeping, often including pictures of people actually sleeping on them.
The sixth to ninth place were taken by Porto Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport, Tokyo Haneda International Airport, Tallinn International Airport and Stockholm Arlanda International Airport.
The absolute worst airport for sleeping, according to the website, is the Reykjavik-Keflavik International Airport in Iceland, where several passengers were reportedly forced to stay awake while waiting in the airport overnight because the security personnel would keep waking them up.
The ranking came from votes collected from 26,297 travelers during the voting period from Sept. 2, 2014 to Sept. 7, 2015 via an annual survey on the quality of airports around the world, according to the website.
Travelers rated their experience with the airport, taking into consideration factors like the airport's services and facilities, the cleanliness of the terminal, customer service and comfort.
