Despite making huge expenditure cuts in overseas markets, Sony Corporation still sees China as one of the top strategic regional markets after the U.S. and Japan.
Sony China said the electronics company will continue to look for opportunities to market game consoles, flat panel TVs, cameras and high-end audio products within the region.
Along with this plan, Sony is gearing up for an expansion in China with its other products such as 4K TV, high-end cameras, portable audio players and headphones. PlayStation 4 is set to be in stores in mainland China in early December.
"Sony Mobile's decision would not affect Sony China's long-term strategy to make the China market an important business and profit engine," Sony China said in a statement.
Further, Sony China promised to strengthen its venture by covering aspects of design and development, marketing and services.
Sony chief financial officer Kenichiro Yoshida disclosed on Friday the company's plan to limit spending in China's smartphone market and to recover all sales of handsets in the country because of decline in sales.
Sony, like other global smartphone brands such as Samsung and Apple, has been trying to increase sales in China despite tough competition with domestic brands like Wiko, OnePlus and Xiaomi.
Last week, Yoshida finally announced Sony's retreat from the Chinese market together with an adjusted forecast of 41 million sales, lower by 2 million from the prior estimate.
