Test Results Would Confirm If Lamar Odom Needs Kidney Transplant; Fans Offer Organ

Lamar Odom Hospitalized After Being Found Unconscious At A Brothel In Nevada

One week after waking up from a medically induced coma, former NBA player Lamar Odom's recovery from drug overdose appears to have suffered a setback. Besides two emergency surgeries linked to pneumonia on Thursday, he possibly may need a kidney transplant.

E! New cites a source close to the Laker that doctors are only waiting for results of lab tests to confirm if he needs an organ transplant because of the damage caused by the drug overdose. Doctors previously said that after two brothel workers found him unconscious at Love Ranch, he had "every drug possible in his body."

Even before he woke up from the coma, Lamar already had dialysis that lasts six hours. These medical setbacks caused him to be irritable and anxious, reports said.

But on the positive side, even if the lab tests would confirm he needs a kidney transplant, a number of his fans offered their organs to the husband of Khloe Kardashian, reports TMZ. Some are willing to give it for free. One fan even included blood type information and contact number.

However, some fans saw in the situation an opportunity to earn money on the side. One fan says the cost of his kidney is $25,000, while another says it is $100,000.

But while the fans' generosity may be touching since in all countries the waiting list for kidney donations is long and some patients die while waiting for a match, the flood of organ offers for a sick celebrity while so many others are also in need of donation raises the question if the fans are selective and just want fame.

The other issue in this situation is matching because Lamar's body could reject a transplanted kidney. In many cases, the perfect match are those from blood relatives, which rules out Liza Morales, his former partner, and Khloe. The situation places the burden on his two children with Liza - 17-year-old Destiny and 13-year-old Lamar Jr - and his father Joe, or other siblings, if there are any, who could be the perfect matches.

Meanwhile, what Khloe could do is just be by his side at this time which is why the reality star, often criticized for using Lamar's medical crisis to boost the ratings of their show "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," cancelled press appearances for the promo tour of her new book "Strong Looks Better Naked," according to E!
