Grigor Dmitrov did not have a great season in 2015 but he was still one of the more controversial tennis players.

In a recent interview with Tennis World USA, the Bulgarian tennis star and former Wimbledon junior champion expressed his regrets on the past year and hopes not to repeat them.

"Simply I just wanted to play better at the beginning of the season," he said. "I did well in Australia, I had my chances against (Andy Murray), but then things turned out. After that match I lost a little bit of confidence, I changed a my racquet and I had some changes off court. It just took a lot of attention to my goals through the year. I started to make things wrong in practice, my fitness level wasn't good and so I didn't play a very good tennis."

Dmitrov was poised to make his big step after reaching the Wimbledon semifinals in 2014. He started 2015 ranked  No. 11 but dropped to No. 26 as he failed to get past the 4th round in any Grand Slam tournament.

He added: "Hopefully I'll learn quite enough from it and I hope I don't make the same mistake in 2016,"

Most of his critics cannot help but insinuate that he's referring to his activities outside the court as well. Dmitrov had a very controversial romance with Russian tennis superstar Maria Sharapova that ended on July this year amid allegations that he was cheating.

According to a report from Tennis X, Dmitrov was alleged to have an affair with Bulgarian playmate of the year Nikoleta Lozanova who is also married to a Bulgarian footballer.

The report also mentioned that Sharapova took back a Porsche that she gave to Dmitrov.
