WWE Hell In A Cell Review: John Cena Loses Us Open Challenge To Del Rio

Alberto Del Rio

Much to the surprise of the WWE universe, John Cena lost his US title. Cena who is widely expected to take some time off, lost his title to old adversary Alberto Del Rio. Rumours were rife of who will take up the challenge, but much to the surprise of many the Latino wrestler took the challenge.

Wrestling veteran Cena who regained the US  title at Night Of Champions has really put the US title as a title of significance again. During these two spells of being the US champion, bizarrely Cena has always dominated WWE world heavyweight champion, Seth Rollins.

Such a decision is really odd, the fact that Seth Rollins struggles to beat the US champion. The Architect Rollins has the more prestigious title, so in theory Rollins should be the better wrestler as such.

Many wrestlers have challenged and failed in the US open challenge. Big E Langston, Dolph Ziggler and Cesaro are to name just some of the wrestlers to have come into the ring and not conquer.

I could see what the WWE was trying to do in regards to the US open challenge .What I didn't agree with was that as good as though matches were, the Cesaro match, in particular, you always knew that Cena was going to win somehow.

On the flip side, The Swiss Superman's career is going in the right direction. Cesaro who was in a very competent tag team with Tyson Kid was forced to go into singles matches due to that unfortunate to Kid.

After that misfortune to Tyson, Cesaro's career needed a push and matches with John Cena which were fantastic have helped that. As good as John Cena's US open challenges have been, the time was right to see the C-Nation leader lose his title.

The decision to give the title to Del Rio is a very good marketing decision. The WWE who are losing ratings and are losing more to the Latino market were naturally going to bring back one of their biggest stars in the Latin American world.
