Bahrain has approved to designate a cultural attaché to China to assist Bahraini students studying in the country, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Following a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Sameera Rajab, minister of state for information affairs and official government spokesperson, announced the decision during a press conference in the country's capital city of Manama.

"There are over 500 Bahrainis studying at different Chinese universities that require the appointment of an attaché," said the official.

China and Bahrain celebrated the 25th anniversary of their diplomatic ties in April this year. But even as the two countries established their relationship relatively late, China and Bahrain have taken it beyond the diplomatic level, according to Fair Observer.

Chinese and Bahraini officials were in talks in March regarding plans to set up a Confucius Center at the University of Bahrain.

In addition to that, the Chinese Scholarship Council offers annual scholarship for Bahraini students desirous of studying in China.

On the business front, representatives from Manama and Beijing have met over the past few months with political and business leaders alike to talk about ways of improving ties between the two countries.

Chinese companies such as Huawei, Bank of China, China Harbor Engendering and Daily Wealth Limited have chosen the Gulf country as a foundation from which to launch their businesses.
