Though a Western tradition, Halloween is an annual event celebrated by Chinese not only to honor departed relatives, but also for the sheer fun and color that comes with it.
This year the Sanlitun area in Beijing's Chaoyang District hosted people portraying their version of scary: faces painted with spiders and webs and blood; faces donned with monster masks; and bodies wearing capes and torn clothes.
In Chengdu, the Sichuan Southwest Vocational College of Civil Aviation held a parade for the event, where teachers and students took part to make the day of the departed come alive.
