Instagram’s Curated Video Channel Goes Toe-To-Toe With Twitter, Snapchat

Halloween's celebrations with its ccostume parties and haunted houses is a huge social media event, which is why Instagram rolled out its new curated video channel then. It was launched on October 31, Saturday in the United States, allowing Instagram users throughout the country to use the new feature. It follows Twitter's and Snapchat's features to stream curated content for special events.

The main goal of the new feature is to make trending Instagram content easier to find. An Instagram spokesperson told Re/code it is a way to share big events with the Instagram community.

The photo-and-video-sharing company's employees had the mission to capture every aspect of the October holiday. That includes photos from the "Halloween Capital of the U.S." in Minnesota, and New York City's yearly Sixth Avenue parade, according to Wired.   

Instagram users can check out the new feature by clicking on the "Watch Halloween's Best Videos" prompt at the top of the feed, according to Re/code. It is a stand-alone feed on the smartphone screen.

The new feature resembles Snapchat's Live Stories feature, which includes curated content from offline events. Examples include sports events and concerts. Twitter's Moments is a similar product that creates a curated story from tweets based on certain events.  

Instagram's, Snapchat's, and Twitter's curated video content features solve the same problem. People like to share offline events they attend. The social networks help to organize the content, while also earning ad revenue through event advertising.

In June Instagram upgraded its search feature, allowing it to collect content for particular topics. Its Explore update is a real-time version of it.
