The Apple TV App Store is now open for third-party applications, following the launch of the 4th-generation media player device on October 30, Friday. While hundreds of apps were available at the new App Store's launch, their discovery is challenging. The figure was too small to justify the creation of category listings and also a Top Charts section, although game and video-related applications seem to be best-selling.

Reports suggest that the most popular TV App Store titles are games and video-related applications. However, such data is unofficial.

The tech company itself is providing no official information about such rankings. In addition, third party analytics firms do not have any inside information.

This has caused some developers to make their own Apple Store Top Charts. One snapshot showed that most of the top-grossing apps are games. However, some video-related apps including Plex, AirVideo, and Carrot Weather are also gaining steam.

Apple TV apps seem to have higher price tags than iOS apps, according to 9to5Mac. Many apps range from $5 to $10, and few are a rock-bottom $1 like on the iOS App Store.

Jonas Boserup has posted a bigger picture of Top Paid, Free, and Grossing apps in the United States' Apple TV App Store. Games and video-watching apps top the charts, but the list also includes a few fitness apps, according to Tech Crunch.

Many developers have complained online that app discovery is a monumental problem with the new Apple TV App Store. That includes the lack of categories.

Apple seemed to have promised a TV App Store with the same format as the iOS App Store. For example, Apple's website shows Category and Top Charts mock-up pages.
