A trade scenario from a Bulls fan begins to make more sense in light of recent developments.
The Chicago Bulls have a very strong roster-they have one of the best backcourt tandems in the league with Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler and they also have a luxury of quality frontcourt players that Joakim Noah has to come off the bench.
However, this team has been hounded by injury which is why their division rival Cleveland Cavaliers are still heavily favored to beat them.
There's one move that can materialize later in the season that could provide some insurance for a title run. In the Real GM forum, user 'pipfan' proposed to acquire Jeremy Lin from the Charlotte Hornets.
The Charlotte Hornets will sign guard Jeremy Lamb to a three year extension, confirmed by Marc Stein's tweet. With that, moving Lin is not too far-fetched.
"According to ESPN sources, Hornets and Lamb are closing in on a three-year extension in the $21 million range."
Of course, this trade would only work if the Hornets are failing and may see this as a lost season. In that case, the Hornets would be willing to let go of Jeremy Lin, in exchange the Bulls would send Kirk Hinrich and their own 2016 Draft pick.
For the Hornets, getting an extra first-round pick is essential if they are set to rebuild (again). Hinrich also gives them an extra veteran.
The assumption is that the Chicago Bulls would be fine losing their own pick, which would probably end up in the late 20s. They do own the Sacramento Kings first round pick which is only top 10 protected. Considering that Kings are a marginal playoff team in the West, the pick could be in the late lottery or mid-range.
"Linsanity" would not be able to shock the world as he did before, but he can be a reliable back-up and he could work well in Coach Fred Hoiberg's offense.
