Multinational technology corporation Microsoft announced on Thursday that Dropbox, a famous online storage service, is now supported by its Office app for Android. In addition, improvements have been made for the integration of its OneDrive service with the app.

The storage support is inline with the new strategic partnership between Microsoft and Dropbox announced earlier this month. The update was first implemented for iOS users of the app, which adds connectivity to Dropbox so that users do not need to leave the app to upload. The Android version of the update came soon after.

In a blog post by Microsoft, the tech giant said that the Office Mobile app for Android now has the capability to edit and save Dropbox files without leaving the app. Android users can now browse, edit and save files from Dropbox.

The difference between the iOS and Android version is that the former has three separate apps for each of the Office programs (Excel, Word and PowerPoint), whereas the latter contains all three in one app. However, the Android version may soon follow the iOS format.

There is still no Office app update for the larger Android tablets, but Microsoft says that a dedicated version for the bigger Android tablets will come sometime early next year.

The Office app is free for non-commercial use on both platforms. If users want to use the Office app for commercial purposes, they will need to pay for a one-year subscription for Office 365 at $5 a month.
