Super Smash Bros

In the past days and weeks, the rumors touching on the upcoming Super Smash Bros. 4 DLC seemed to have been focused on the character that Nintendo will soon introduce to the brawling gameplay. The biggest vote was garnered by Shovel Knight while the Inklings from the Splatoon were also widely mentioned.

Other interesting characters were also nominated as reports indicate that the planned Super Smash expansion will be composed of three new characters and two additional game stages. The information was courtesy of some Smashers that dug deep inside the game's data and in the process unearthed the slots for the add-ons.

To date, however, the likelihood of the Inklings becoming part of the Super Smash is not getting any concrete indicator from Nintendo - not even a faint tease.

More so with the Shovel Knight, in which case the Super Smash creator did not need to say anything to downplay the possibility that the character is among the Smash Bros. DLC. Yacht Club Games, the Knight creator, did Nintendo a favor by announcing via Twitter that shortlisting Shovel Knight with the rumored new Super Smash figures was a mistake.

The developer further explained that Shovel Knight is incompatible with Super Smash, meaning the character will not be playable on the platform, which explains why the term 'mistake, was used.

Still, Master Herald noted that many are hoping against hope that Nintendo and Yacht Club can work together and fix the claimed incompatibility to allow for the Knight's smashing entry to the game. "But this theory is starting to seem less and less likely," the report allowed.

But if indeed the Shovel Knight is totally out of the picture, the sure thing to expect is Nintendo's planned Smash Bros. upgrade will not offset the game's balanced and competitive setting. Super Smash, after all, rose to prominence due to its seemingly casual playability while at the same time becoming a venue for high level gameplay.

To be sure, Nintendo does not intent to alter this winning formula but to enhance it instead, Master Herald said on its report.

So with or without Shovel Knight or the Inklings for that matter, the Super Smash Bros. 4 DLC on release date will most certainly provide an expansion that will strike a balance that all sort of Smashers will appreciate - optimized for game newbies to encourage accessibility but uncompromising in terms of required high gameplay skills in order to advance in the game.
