Guzzling sodas and other sweetened beverages add to health woes.

Regular intake of sugar-sweetened beverages can be fatal. It contributes to heart failure development in men. This was the finding published in Heart, the British Cardiovascular Society's official journal.

Researchers from Stockholm Sweden surveyed, from 1998 until 2010, over 42,000 Swedish men in their prime and senior years through questionnaire.

They uncovered that the respondents who consumed a minimum of two servings daily of sweetened drinks had a 23 percent greater risk of heart failure vis-à-vis non-drinkers, the British Medical Journal reported.

The study is quite alarming, given the increasing number of soda guzzling youth. Doctors and nutritionists note how many individuals tend to abuse sugar, creating a crop of problems that include heart disorder.

Heart failure occurs when the vital organ supplying blood throughout the body is not robust enough to do its job.

Heart failure, that may be manifested by symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, weakness, and palpitations can impair quality of life. A regular diet with high nutritive value can lessen heart failure symptoms.

On the other hand, unhealthy lifestyle habits like smoking, lack of exercise, and consumption of sugar-laden sodas may heighten the risk of heart failure. Sweetened beverages, in particular, can lead to about 184,000 deaths of adults annually,Tufts University posted on its official website.

Previous studies pointed out the link between the onset of health issues ranging from obesity and diabetes to other chronic illnesses due to regular consumption of refined sugar.

The new study underscored that heart failure adds to the health woes caused by toxic sugar.
