‘Fallout 4’ News & Updates: Istvan Pely Dishes On How He Fixed Pip-Boy

Microsoft recently started rolling out the New Xbox Experience to it subscribers.

While developing "Fallout 4," Bethesda Studios made sure that everything was new and fresh, but at the same time maintain the feeling like it suits into the "Fallout" franchise. Istvan Pely, the main designer of both "Fallout 3" and "Fallout 4" was central to the great development.

According to iDigital Times, the most significant task for Pely was updating the iconic Pip-Boy wrist computer. Pely had actually created the Pip-Boy when working on "Fallout 3," and he designed the device to have the greatest aesthetic value.

According to a different report from the same publication, Pely told iDigital Times, "It's interesting, because the original Pip-Boy from 'Fallout 3' has a screen and controls, and the controls are to the left of the screen."

The lead artists added that he did not realize until too late that when it came to usability, the device was an unfortunate UI especially when using an arm to cover the screen as one uses the button on the left.

Creating the "Pip-Boy Mark IV" has been the biggest challenge for Pely, and it has been crucial to brainstorm before coming out with something perfect.

Pely acknowledged, "It's been a thrill [designing the Pip-Boy], especially since when I approach things I do so from an industrial design standpoint," Pely said. "'How would this function if it was a real thing?' I want it to be as grounded and feel as real as possible."

The creator was happy when he received information that Bethesda was planning to make physical Pip-Boys for gamers to use. He was particularly thrilled because the design is in details and he is sure that fans will love it as well.

"Fallout 4" plus the physical Pip-Boy will be released on Nov. 10 for PS4, PC, and Xbox One.
