After the documentary on Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain was released earlier this year, a full biopic is reportedly in the works.

The project is already listed in IMDB as "in development" but it is different from the film that Cobain's widow, singer-actress Courtney Love is developing.

The big question is the casting. Who will play the coveted role of one of the pioneers of grunge?

According to Brett Morgen, director of "Montage of Heck," the Kurt Cobain documentary, Jared Leto gets his nod as he shared with Digital Spy.

"Jared Leto - he did an audition for it years ago too," said Morgen. The "audition" he was referring to was a performance Leto made singing Nirvana track "Pennyroyal Tea."

He added: "I never watched his audition, he might be too old right now, but he's a musician who I think looks kind of... I think I would buy him as Kurt."

However, the director is still unsure of what he feels about a full feature film on Kurt Cobain. Morgen aired his initial misgivings but confessed he felt the same way about the documentary he just released.

"But I don't think anybody should play Kurt. I don't think there should ever be a fiction film of Kurt. Why? What's the point? You have 'Montage of Heck.' Why would you need to dramatise it?"

Then he admits: "Who knows? I felt the same way about making a documentary about Kurt before I made the documentary! So you never f**king know! I was as cynical as anyone about doing a Cobain documentary. Is there anything left to say, is there anything left to show?"

There may still be a lot more to show and fans definitely want to see it. This is why Cobain's widow, Courtney Love is producing the biopic which has Oren Moverman attached as director. The film is based on the 2002 Cobain biography "Heavier Than Heaven" by Charles Cross.

NME recounts Love's appearance on The View where she shared her casting choices. She said she was torn between Ryan Gosling and James McAvoy, the latter of whom she described, "looks like [if] Edward Norton and Kurt had a baby."
