Because of its booming film industry, China has set the goal high as it aims to top the upcoming season's box office charts through the country's best homegrown talent.

As the Spring Festival nears, more and more homegrown flicks are introduced and included in the annual "new year film season celebration" where a selection of movies are screened.

Some of this season's most awaited Chinese films include John Woo's romance-tragedy "The Crossing," which will be released on Dec. 2.

More than 70 other high-budgeted movies will also be revealed up until the Lantern Festival which marks the end of the season.

According to the Motion Picture Association of America, China's box office revenue is rising to nearly 30 percent every year over the past 10 years as it gradually becomes a middle-income country.

In 2013, over 180 million people spent 6.4 billion yuan ($1 billion) to watch 71 films in Chinese cinemas during the season, breaking an all-time record in the country.

Due to the growing market and the increasing number of middle-class moviegoers, experts believe that this year's goal to smash the box office charts will be a success.

Continuous promotions and marketing from movie producers like the Huayi Brothers, Huace Film & TV and Enlight Media are also seen as a major contributor to the Chinese film industry's widely anticipated success.

According to Xinhua News, China has about 2,300 production houses that continue to release 700 films annually, leaving it in third place when it comes to movie production capacity.
