One Direction’s “History” Soars in Music Charts, Fans Get Sentimental

One Direction's "Made in the A.M." album carries a track about the group’s "History."

One Direction keeps popping surprises these days. A week before the release of its latest album, Made in the A.M., the popular quartet dropped its new track "History," which immediately soared in music charts.

"History" zoomed to the top spot on real-time song raced to No. 1 on the real-time Billboard + Twitter Trending 140, Billboard reported.

It is a case of history repeating itself, since the band's other single, "Drag Me Down" also soared in the Billboard Trending 140 Chart following its release.

"Drag Me Down" and the British band's other tracks, "Perfect" and "Infinity" remained on the weekly Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks.

Louis Tomlinson said that "History" is laden with meaning. The acoustic ballad has members of the group reminiscing about the five years they have been together. Tomlinson expressed hopes that fans will feel they are part of the song as well.

Indeed, the making of the tracks in the new album really involved fans' participation. Niall Horan tweeted that fans were brought to the studio for the recording of the chorus, and create the crowd vocals.

Horan likewise tweeted that "History" is one of the band's favorites; it was a unanimous decision to put the ballad in Made in the A.M album.  He expressed that the positive response to the new track makes him happy.

Horan's tweet received affirmations of love on Twitter sphere. "History" was regarded by one of One Direction's Twitter followers as a "promise" never to leave.

The new track was likened to the cheery and comforting "Toy Story" soundtrack classic "You've Got a Friend in Me" by Randy Newman, Fuse reported.

Months earlier, One Direction announced that it is set to have a much-needed hiatus in 2016. The break will allow the individual members to explore lucrative projects and to concentrate on tapping their other skills.
