The most viewed YouTube video of all time, South Korean rapper Psy's "Gangnam Style" music video, has been viewed over 2 billion times, breaking the video site's view limit.
This exceeded the 32-bit integer maximum view limit of YouTube, which means that the maximum possible views the video-sharing website could count was 2,147,483,647.
However, with the record-breaking number of views "Gangnam Style" music video has reached, YouTube has to upgrade from a 32-bit integer to a 64-bit integer for its video counter.
On Dec. 1, Monday, YouTube released a statement saying, "We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer . . . but that was before we met Psy."
YouTube is owned by Google, which has told The Verge that engineers expected the "Gangnam Style" music video to exceed the 32-bit integer maximum view limit a couple of months ago and they have prepared for it by having their systems updated.
Psy has yet to comment, although news of YouTube's change has been posted on his Facebook and Twitter pages.
Among the 10 most viewed YouTube videos of all time, only Psy's "Gangnam Style" music video and "Baby" by Justin Bieber featuring Ludacris with more than 1.117 billion views have been viewed more than 1 billion times.
Psy's "Gentleman" was also viewed more than 762 million times, making it the eighth most viewed YouTube video of all time.
With more than 805 million YouTubes, the "Charlie bit my finger--again!" clip is at number three and is the only non-music video in the list. The video features two toddlers in an armchair and was posted in 2007.
Also in the list of 10 most viewed YouTube videos of all time are "On the Floor" by Jennifer Lopez featuring Pitbull with more than 975 million views; "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock with over 781 million views; "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" by Shakira with over 777 million views; "Love the Way You Lie" by Eminem featuring Rihanna with over 775 million views; "Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus with over 727 million views; and "Roar" by Katy Perry with over 718 million views.
