NBA Trade Rumors: D’Angelo Russell to Utah Jazz To Solve Point Guard Woes Proposed As Lakers Would Want ‘Old School’ Derrick Favors

D'Angelo Russell

The current injury to Rudy Gobert has shown just how much Derrick Favors is capable of.

He recorded 25 points and 12 rebounds in the heartbreaking loss against the Miami Heat along with a monstrous 7 blocks.

However, despite Favors being a veteran on the Jazz, the big man of the future for this team is Rudy Gobert, and when Gobert is on the floor, Favors does not perform as well. The Jazz are also a team with multiple needs to address. Sports On Earth predicted that Utah may shop him.

The best case for the Jazz is to sell high on Favors by increasing his trade value while Gobert is out. This is the rationale behind a thread on Real GM forum.

One interesting trade for Favors involves D'Angelo Russell of the Utah Jazz. Russell is a point guard who could also play the two, but he is currently being sidelined by Lakers coach Byron Scott. Yet, there are still many teams who are high on his potential.

The proposal has Russell and Roy Hibbert's expiring contract (to match salaries) going to Utah and the Favors along with Trevor Booker and possibly Trey Burke to LA.

A backcourt combo of D'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum when he returns will cause nightmares for their opponents if both players live up to their pre-season hype. They could be explosive as a duo since they both have good size. Exum's strength is defense while Russell is a much better shooter and that's a good combination.

On the other hand, Favors has been underrated because he is not in the "stretch four" mold that is in vogue in the NBA now. He is an "old school" forward strong enough to hold his own at the five-the kind that Byron Scott likes.

This is simply a proposal based on fit but the possibility could actually be explored by both teams in the future.
