Hong Kong democratic protesters were arrested by the local authorities on the main protest site were arrested on Thursday, ending the two-month protest to pursue democracy. The activists chant: "We will be back."

However, most of the protesters chose to abandon the Admiralty site even if their demands for suffrage were not met. The activists' said that they will return to fight for their cause again.

"You might have the clearance today but people will come back on to the streets another day," said Alex Chow, who heads the Hong Kong Federation of Students.

After the barricades of the protesters were removed, the Hong Kong police arrested the remaining protesters who refused to leave.

Several of the people arrested included media proprietor Jimmy Lai, Democratic Party founder Martin Lee, student leader Nathan Law and other legislators.

Lai said that the 75-day protest was not enough to get their demands through and that there would be more "battles" before the activists "win the war."

According to the leaders of the movement, they will still conduct civil disobedience through other forms as the Beijing government refused to give their demand.

"Refusal to pay taxes, delaying rent payments ... and filibustering in the Legislative Council, along with other acts of non-cooperation, could make governing more inconvenient," said Benny Tai, one of the many leaders of the protest.

The movement generated a huge load of trash and waste, blocking two highway lanes. Local authorities cleaned up the rubbish using about 20 trucks.

It is not the first time the Chinese government had a standoff with many protesters. In 1989, a peaceful pro-democracy protest turned into a bloody massacre, leaving hundreds, if not thousands, of students dead at the Tiananmen Square in Beijing.
