Pacquiao Next Fight Vs Canelo Alvarez In 2016 Possible If Saul Beats Cotto

Canelo Alvarez and Miguel Cotto

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez could jump from one Freddie Roach-trained boxer to another.

Latest reports claim that Bob Arum himself has placed eight-time Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao on the table for Canelo if he beats Miguel Cotto in their November 21 match.

This was mentioned by a report from Boxing News 24 which stated that Lance Pugmire of the LA Times claimed that Top Rank's Bob Arum told him that he wants to have Manny Pacquiao fight Canelo if he beats Cotto.

"Bob Arum told me this week that Manny Pacquiao may be on the table for you," Pugmire reportedly said to Canelo.

"Yes, of course, it's a fight [Canelo vs. Pacquiao] that could happen in the future, but right now my focus is on Miguel Cotto 100 percent and nobody else. I am not thinking about the future." Canelo was quoted.

Canelo is playing it cool and it would be detrimental for him to talk about any other boxer just days before his title fight with Miguel Cotto.  However, the fight is definitely something to look forward to.

Pacquiao is said to have just one last fight. According to the NY Post, Pacman's last fight is "tentatively scheduled" for April 9 but the site and opponent has not yet been determined. The eight-division champion is running for a Senate seat in the national elections in his native Philippines.

If he is elected, Arum confirms it's the end of his boxing career. "This will be his last fight," Arum told the Post. "If he's a Senator, there's no way he can participate in boxing."

There have been rumors of a possible PacMan rematch with Floyd Mayweather, but Money has vehemently denied that there were any negotiations. Canelo Alvarez would be the next best thing (if he beats Cotto) and would be better (in terms of projected Pay-per-View sales) than Amir Khan or Terence Crawford.
