Apple Inc. has come up with a new security update for its Mac operating system X (OS X), Mountain Lion, Mavericks, and Yosemite. It is good news for the Mac owners and users as the latest NTP security update is capable to fix a critical issue related to security concerns with the software that provides the Network Time Protocol service on OS X.

The company has recommended this update for all users and the software update suggests the users to install this security patch as soon as possible. Though the relevant details in this regard are not available as of now, but Apple would provide them on its security updates page (Apple Security Updates page) soon.

Apple has suggested the users that in order to install and update, the user needs to choose the Software Update from the Apple menu and proceed to click the Update button, which is next to the latest Security Update entry. Additionally, the company has informed that the users do not require rebooting the system for getting the update installed successfully.

This update is meant to tackle a problem that was earlier highlighted by the government of United States on Dec. 19, Friday, and was originally discovered by the Google Security Team.

The Apple's support page mentions that this update solves a problem which could otherwise allow a potential attacker to remotely run the code on the system. There were various critical issues in the NTP to facilitate attackers to initiate buffer overflows, among others.

It is important to note that Apple has faced several vulnerabilities this year and in Sep 2014 released an OS X bash update to fix the 'Shellshock security flaw'.
